High value items did not have their serial numbers listed on the inventory sheets at all. If any of them would have been missing when my goods were delivered, I would not have any proof that they were even packed. This would give the company a reason to deny paying for replacements.
They lost almost all of the hardware for my bookshelves and media shelves. There was other damage to my household goods; however, it was comparable to other moving companies.
One star is too high of a rating.
There were several times that I walked in on the movers playing on their cell phones instead of packing. They would put their phone down and start working again as soon as I walked into the room. In addition to the time that was wasted with them being on their phones, there were also times when 2 of the packers would just be standing around instead of packing (for at least an hour) while the supervisor “caught up” on the inventory paperwork.
I’ve had several different moving companies move my household goods within past 21 years (8 times) and this company is among the worst of them. They moved my goods from Odenton, MD, to Jacksonville, NC,…picking up on August 21, 2015, and delivering on September 14, 2015. The packers/movers were polite; however, their politeness does not make up for the lack of trust that I now have for this company.
They were scheduled to take 3 days (19-21 Aug) to pack my household goods and they were scheduled to load everything onto the trucks on the 3rd day (21 Aug). Three of their employees worked 8 hours on the first day, 4 hours on the second day (they left my house to take care of another customer), and 12 hours on the third day. The only reason that they completed everything on the third day is because they had 3 additional employees (for a total of 6 movers) show up on the third day which appeared to already have been scheduled to be there due to the fact that they were using two box trucks to transport my household goods.
Wheaton refused to pay for their replacements (“we have no evidence that these items went missing while in our care and respectfully deny liability”). Instead, they told me to file a police report and work it through my insurance company.
Some boxes were labeled with the moving stickers, and then loaded into other boxes. This made it extremely difficult to account for all of the boxes when my goods were delivered since it gave the appearance that boxes were missing.
I hope that DH Moving and Storage are never contracted to move my household goods again.
The worst thing that happened was two tablets with their cases and charging cables were stolen from my home while their employees were there. The only people that were in my home when they went missing were their employees and me. After my wife and I went through every box and could not find them, we added them to our lost/damaged claim that went to Wheaton World Wide Moving (the moving company that DH was working for with this move).
Some of my framed pictures were simply put into an open box with little to no protection instead of being wrapped and put into a closed box.
